Diabetes and Vision Loss:
People with diabetes are at risk of losing sight due to diabetes eye disease. It is the leading cause of new-onset blindness in many countries. Diabetes can lead to other possible complications, including heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, leg amputation, and nerve damage. In pregnancy, poorly controlled diabetes increases the risk of fetal death and other complications. World Walk To Stop Diabetes is the annual signature event organised by Lions Club of Mentakab since year 2012 in conjunction of Lions World Diabetes Day, an annual campaign led by the International Diabetes Federation on November 14 with the purpose of Raising Diabetes Awareness and Preserving Sight.

This project was started in 2014. We had sent 20 patient to Lions Eye Clinic to do cataract operation in 2014, 24 patient in 2015 and 16 patient in 2016. This year we help the Lions Eye Clinic to raise fund by selling the raffle tickets. We are succeed sold out 107 books of raffle tickets.

Handicapped and Mentally Retarded Centre established with a main motive of helping the special children of our loving nation. The special children whom we are gifted to take care are spastic, blind, dumb, Down syndrome, physically handicapped and mentally retarded. They are multi racial aging between 14 to 54 years.The objective is to run this home on long term basis to enable these children to be independent when they grow up into adults in the coming future. They organize activities for the inmates OFF and ON to keep them happy and grow. In this way they are trying to help the community and the government to care for the Handicapped and mentally retarded which is also a service to mankind.

Project Name : A SPECIAL DAY WITH THE ORPHANS
Project Description :
Our Club wanted to bring a very special and joyful day for the 137 orphans in Rumah Kanak-Kanak Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom, at Jalan Km 20 Jalan Pekan, Kuantan. On 18 September 2016 (Sunday) at 8.30am, 12 Lions, with more than 30 Friends of Lions (amongst them 10 are professional hair dressers) started a haircut session together with anti lice treatment. The process took about 2 full hours for all the 137 inmates.

Simultaneously there were very interesting games and telematches arranged for different groups of children. We brought in even some small animals like rabbits and cats. It then followed with party time, with plenty of food and drinks. There were also music and performances by some of our Lions and Friends of Lions. Every child was presented with a goodie beg of toys and delicacies. To make the occasion even happier, we hired a Clown to entertain the children and also an Ice Cream Van to give them a really good treat of ice cream. It was really an enjoyable and memorable day for everyone !

To engage with Friends of Lions (where we provided them with a Specially Designed T Shirt) and a group of generous donors to jointly carry out this project. Through this project, we have inpired some of them to join our Lions Club.

This signature project which is English conversation class is established on year 2007. The aim of the project is to improve English conversation among the lions members as most of them are using Chinese language. Since Lions club is English based oriented, our Charter President, Lion Ng Kian decided to have English conversation class. The class also opened to public whoever want to improve English conversation to join and it is free-of-charged. As a result, the public have give good response to the class. English teacher is hired by the club with subsidy paid to deliver lesson to the class. The class is held weekly for an hour of lesson. Our latest English teacher is Mr. Lee Koon Long who is expert in English class has taken over the class since year 2010 till today. The students come from various ages from 20 year-old youngster till 60 year-old elderly. Till today, the total student for English conversation class is 30 people.

Project Name : INTERNATIONAL UNDERSTANDING AND JOINT HEALTH SCREENING PROJECT IN ABORIGINAL SETTLEMENT
Project Description :
The project was jointly organized by Lions Club of Raub, Lions Club of Dar Yu, Taiwan and Leo club of SMJK Chung Ching Raub on 17.07.2016
It was successfully carried out at Pos Ulu Ruai, an Aboriginal Settlement in Raub District, Pahang.. Lions and spouses, family members from both twinning clubs, and Leo members participated in the project.
Sundry foodstuff parcels, and Goodies were distributed to 67 Orang Asli families. Medical doctors from Lions Club of Raub provided health screening and checkup to more 102 Asli adults and children. Deworming and other types of medicines were also distributed to the attended villagers. The project provided a platform for Lions from Malaysia and Taiwan to enhance further our international understanding and long lasting fellowship.
Total cost of foodstuff purchased: RM2,600.
Total cost of medicines donated by PP Lion Dr. Ragavan. RM1200.
Total Lions, Leos and family members participated: 43
Total members of Aboriginal benefited : around 426.
