Project Name : CYCLE FOR SIGHT – FUND RAISING
Project Description :
The ‘Cycle For Sight’ project objective is to raise fund to assist the blind and the visually impaired group of people in our community. It was the first project involving cyclists to be organised by the Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur North. For Cycle for Sight 2016, there were 161 registered participants (123 cyclist for 33km and 38 cyclist for 11km). The platinum sponsor was Setia Ecohill and the gold sponsor was Avaya Singapore. Venue sponsor was Nottingham University Malaysia Campus. Other sponsors were: Allianz, Gardenia, Marigold, Chakri Palace, Sun Great Freshness, Lion Ken Jern – sponsored helmets and tool kits, PDG Sim Boon Chuan in cash, souvenir booklet advertisement placed by V-Network and several others. Rewurk provided the lead car, lead cyclist, marshalls and photography. Over 60 volunteers from KPJ University College, UNITEN, Nottingham University and Leos participated in our cycle for sight 2016.

Beneficiaries were National Council For The Blind Malaysia, Lions Eye Clinic and SightFirst fund of the Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur North. A total of RM 20,000 were raised and over RM 10,000 were donated to the beneficiaries while remaining fund of RM 10,000 were channelled to the SIGHT FUND of Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur North.

Present were District Governor Lion Sashekala Pathmanathan, Council Chairperson Shawn Lee, 1st vice district governor Richard Ho, 2nd vice district governor Michelle Mok, PDG Sam Leong, cabinet officers from District 308-B1, Mr. Koh Sooi Meng – general manager of Setia Ecohill and Mr. Sami from Avaya, Singapore.

Mr. Rex Choo won the 1st prize, an e-Bike donated by Nexem and Mr. A K Woo won the 2nd prize, a Tropix Mountain bike donated by Quantum Cycle Pte Ltd from Singapore.

1. Objective of the Signature Project
The objective of the Cycle for Sight signature project is to raise funds for the blind and visually impaired people in our community. This project promotes healthy lifestyles in fund raising by encouraging participation from all ages from teenagers to adults to senior citizens. The youngest participant is only 8 years old while the oldest is around 65 years old. We provides 11km and 33km category to cater to these participants.

9. Critical success factor
Corporate sponsorship is very important to the project to ensure the funds raised are sufficient to cover the expenses as well as raising significant amount of funds to donate to the beneficiaries. Other critical success factor like venue and cycling route, weather, and support from local Police and RELA, etc are important as well to guarantee a successful event.

10. Other info
Next year in 2017, we plan to organise CYCLE FOR SIGHT 2017 CENTENNIAL CHARITY RIDE of 100km in conjunction with the 100 years celebration of Lions Club International.
